Welcome to the new, improved Lordswood Boys' School Web Site. Lordswood Boys' is situated four miles from the centre of Birmingham, UK. We serve the needs of local children and families. We believe passionately in educating each individual to his full potential. Our boys leave as confident, independent citizens; the pride of their family and community.

All schools are different and some of the things that are different about Lordswood are: It is a small school. Individual boys are well known by the teachers. Their strengths and weaknesses are often discussed in the staff room and this creates an atmosphere where each boy can be helped according to his need with the aim of developing individuals to achieve their maximum potential.

Ofsted inspection report 2007

“The school communicates well with all parents, especially those of vulnerable pupils or those with learning difficulties.’’

At Lordswood we value every child for his individual gifts and talents. Each is exceptional in some way. Some need additional support while others grasp the core of subjects with such ease that individual attention is needed to stretch them; we place this support at the centre of our work with students. Support operates from a new purpose built Inclusion Centre, including a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Centre staffed by a coordinator and team of Learning Support Assistants. Supporting students who have learning difficulties, the centre arranges in-class support, withdrawal and individual tuition. There is a well established peer reading scheme, year 10 boys supporting year 7 boys. We also offer a variety of lunchtime activities, including a games club, chess club and homework club.

Ofsted inspection report 2007

“Pupils at risk of exclusion receive a tailored off-site program by senior staff and as a result they achieve some accreditation by the end of Year 11... support offered by senior staff to disaffected pupils is outstanding.”

It is an all boys school. Some research indicates that boys perform better in single sex schools and we are proud of our examination results.

It is a multi-cultural school. We have four main ethnic groups in the school: Indian, Pakistani, White and Black. This rich variety of backgrounds makes the school an interesting environment in which to work."

Inclusion support is extended through our year coordination team which includes a Student Support Assistant for each year group. This team gives a focus to family support, and regular contact with parents ensures students have clear and consistent guidance. Boys experiencing personal difficulties are supported through mentoring support and specialist counselling. Our Learning Support Centre provides individualised study programmes, and these are extended through courses provided by a range of agencies during GCSEs.
